Midtown Brews

Meet the Bloggers » Midtown Brews: Dr. Lawrence Krauss--Lawrence M. Krauss is the Ambrose Swasey Professor of Physics and Astronomy, Director Center for Education and Research in Cosmology and Astrophysics, at CWRU, and here is his detailed bio, or profile. Better known for "The Physics of Star Trek", he also organized the no-confidence vote against CWRU's president Ed Hundert. Here, at the link, is the MTB conversation with him last Thursday, December 7th, at the Midtown Brews event. Dr Krauss left after an hour or so, and the conversation continued to roll. For me, the one interesting point raised was the co-dependence of crucial scientific research programs with the politics of the government budget, and how we need to rethink our means of getting the research done and paid for. We can't afford to have our scientific progress, the key to our collective future, held hostage by other, lower priority constituencies clamoring for the same dollars.

I believe that the next Midtown Brews event is Thursday, January 11, 2007, and at it, our Brews host, Jeff Friedman of Webtego, will unveil his experience of being fresh back from Nashville as the local proponent for the public-speaking & advocacy program initiated by Al Gore and the movie An Inconvenient Truth. Perhaps we will all learn how to become more "carbon neutral."
