Dear Tim-

Many of you know that I applied for the open position on the Cleveland Municipal School board. I am writing this email to let you know that I am sitting down with Mayor Frank Jackson for a face-to-face interview.

Yes, I made it through the nominating committee selection process and now have the opportunity to sit down with Mayor Jackson this Friday afternoon and talk about what I think may be the number one issue for our city's future--the education of its children.

I wrote this post http://www.gloriaferris.net/2008/04/mayor-jackson-asked-and-i-responded/ on my blog as to why I had decided to put my hat in the ring. I am sorry that the click thru to the application does not work, but my friend George Nemeth has had technical problems with Brewed Fresh Daily where the link was stored, but you have the basics included in the post.

I want to thank those of you who encouraged me to apply. It has solidified my thinking and I will continue to express the need for huge amounts of investment to change our educational system into one that can prepare our students for the new knowledge economy.

Today, a friend stopped over and when I told him that I had secured an interview with Mayor Jackson. He told me to sit down because we were going to role-play. He would be the mayor and I would be me. He then asked me the questions that he thought Mayor Jackson might ask. At least, they were the ones important to my friend. If anyone would like to email me a question to help me prepare, please do.

Gloria

listening to Jimmy; remembering Wendell

Commissioner ejects reporters from meeting, lambastes newspaper - Cleveland Metro News – The Latest Breaking News, Photos and Stories from The Plain Dealer -- These younger reporters really get it. Note here that they make it easy to do business with them, easy to get the information, listen to it, share it, promote it, archive it. I love having the option to download an MP3 called "commish."

You can get a fairly good idea, from the recording, what kind of talent Jimmy has brought to the table the past 30 years; it's one good reason we're in the condition we are today. There's not a whole lot going on here, when you get it all up in the full light of day. Lots of wind, not much substance. (But he does drop a lot of clues...)

Nobody took Wendell Robinson seriously enough, the last election cycle, when we had the option to strengthen the county commissioner triad by replacing DiMora. It would have certainly improved the public dialogue while it simultaneously weakened the Democratic Party's jobs programs. Now, with the vivacious Debbie of Bay Village trying to oust the magisterial Peter Lawson Jones, we don't have the same upgrade opportunities for our community conversations, at the commissioner level.

Basically there's no conversation under the current setup--it's all one-sided, and in public, it's a loud mouth's rant that makes WTAM's Mike Trivisono look classy and refined.

not paying attention to detail, Tubbs overflows

For at least the last half year, I've been getting this email reply from Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones "official" mailbox (stephanie.tubbs.jones@mail.house.gov):

I'm removing her from my information lists, as of now. I guess she feels that what she doesn't know won't hurt her, but what about the rest of us?

How can she present herself as a representative of this region if her lines of communication are always down?
